Job Description

Introduction
Our Client’s practice in Wigan is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join its supportive, skilled and knowledgeable small animal team. This is a busy practice with an interesting caseload, a strong focus on gold-standard patient care, and a team culture built around collaboration, clinical standards and work/life balance.
The role would suit a vet who enjoys consulting, values good communication, and wants to be part of a practice where patient care, evidence-based medicine and team development are key priorities.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a permanent, full-time position, although there is no fixed rota or set working pattern as of yet as the practice is flexible and open to discussing what the working week could look like for the right candidate.
The practice would ideally like someone to take part in the Saturday rota, which is 1 in 5 Saturdays, working 9:00am to 3:00pm, alongside the agreed weekly hours.
Consults are typically 20–30 minutes, with nurse-led consults also running in practice. Admin time is built into the diary each day to help colleagues leave on time and maintain a strong work/life balance.

Role Description
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will join a busy practice with a varied and interesting caseload. The role will involve providing high-quality first opinion care, building strong client relationships, consulting confidently, and working closely with the wider clinical team to deliver gold-standard care for patients and clients.
There is scope to explore and develop personal clinical interests, supported by the caseload within the practice and a generous CPD allowance. The team is open to new ideas, making this a strong opportunity for a vet who enjoys collaboration, clinical development and contributing to ongoing improvements in patient care.

Team Size
The practice has a fantastic team made up of 5 vets, 8 RVNs, 5 receptionists and 3 VCAs. The nursing team is highly skilled and motivated, with a strong focus on gold-standard patient care, evidence-based medicine, auditing, and clinical protocols. The team includes 3 advanced diploma nurses, a Nursing Certificate holder in Anaesthesia, an ECC nurse and an ISFM Feline Nurse.

Practice Details
This is a busy small animal practice with an interesting caseload and a strong clinical focus. The practice supports longer consult times of 20–30 minutes and benefits from nurse-led consults, helping to provide thorough patient care and client communication.
The clinical team has a clear focus on evidence-based medicine, auditing practices and protocols, and maintaining high standards across the practice. The caseload provides opportunities for personal and clinical development, with support available through CPD and the wider team.
