Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s hospital is looking for a Vet Surgeon to join their supportive and collaborative team, working across the main hospital and one of their branch sites. This is a varied role offering a mix of branch surgery, inpatient care, emergency work and operating time, with flexibility for the right candidate.
Working Hours / Rota
The role is ideally based over four days per week, with two days at the main site and two days at one of the branch sites. A part-time position may also be considered for the right candidate. Sundays, Bank Holidays and Out-of-hours are covered on site by Vets Now, with handover taking place at 9:30pm. The team works a rota of late and early shifts for handover, no more than 1 in 9, although currently fewer. The Saturday rota is daytime only and no more than 1 in 3 Saturdays, but this is currently fewer.
Role Description
This role offers a varied caseload across both hospital and branch settings. At the branch surgeries, vets typically carry out routine procedures including spays, neuters, dentals and non-complicated mass removals. At the hospital, the role will include inpatient care, emergency care and time in theatre.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work independently while also benefiting from mentoring, shadowing and support from more experienced members of the team. The practice is happy to provide internal training and development, with certificate study encouraged for those looking to progress clinically.
Team Size
The current team is made up of 14 Vets who works very well together and is described as collaborative, supportive and highly motivated. The environment would suit a vet who enjoys being part of a positive team while also having the confidence to take ownership of their clinical work.
Practice Details
The practice offers a varied working environment across a main Staines site and branch surgeries. Most branch locations are surgical sites, supporting routine first opinion procedures, while the Hospital site provides inpatient care, emergency care and operating facilities. The practice has a wide range of equipment and an in-house laboratory, supporting both routine and more varied clinical work.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a 2–3-year qualified Vet Surgeon who is comfortable with routine surgery, inpatient care and emergency cases. They should be motivated, collaborative and keen to continue developing clinically. The role could suit someone who values mentoring and support, but it would also work well for a vet who is confident working independently.
More experienced vets will also be considered, and the practice is open to discussing part-time options or a more branch-focused role for the right candidate.
