Introduction
Our Client is a hospital-based small animal practice offering a dedicated Emergency and Critical Care service in Shrewsbury. Operating within a not-for-profit environment, the hospital is committed to delivering the highest standards of care to pets and their owners while supporting a collaborative and purpose-driven clinical culture.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care who prefers day shifts while still managing a stimulating and medically focused caseload.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time role averaging 40 hours per week. Rota options include either 4 days on / 4 days off or 3 shifts per week with 2 in 9 weekends. Shift times are 07:00 – 20:00, including a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.

Role Description
In this role, you will oversee inpatient care and manage emergency cases presenting through the hospital’s A&E service. The caseload is medically focused, with responsibility for coordinating and delivering high-quality care to inpatients.

You will perform emergency procedures where appropriate and collaborate closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive case management. The position offers exposure to complex medical cases within a fast-paced hospital environment, providing an excellent opportunity to further develop Emergency and Critical Care skills.

This is a key role within the hospital, requiring strong clinical judgement, effective communication, and the ability to support clients compassionately during stressful situations.

Practice Details
The hospital provides a dedicated A&E service alongside inpatient care facilities, operating within a not-for-profit framework. The practice is equipped to manage complex emergency and critical care cases and fosters a culture of teamwork, clinical development, and patient-focused care.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon with confidence in managing complex medical cases and some surgical experience. You will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and demonstrate strong communication skills when supporting clients during challenging circumstances.

A Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care would be advantageous but is not essential. A proactive attitude, motivation to continue developing technical capabilities, and commitment to high clinical standards are key to success in this role.
