Job Description

Introduction
Our Client’s practice is a busy first opinion veterinary practice focused on delivering high-quality, individualised patient care. The team prides itself on being inclusive, forward-thinking, and supportive, offering a balance between the backing of a larger organisation and the clinical freedom of an independent setting. This is a 1-year fixed-term maternity cover role starting in April with potential for a permanent position.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), with flexibility to work either 4 or 5 days. The rota includes 1 in 4 Saturdays, with no Sundays or out-of-hours requirements. Flexible working options are available, including late starts, extended lunch breaks, split shifts, and tailored working patterns to suit personal commitments.

Role Description
The role involves handling a variety of routine consultations and medical/surgical cases within a general practice setting. There is flexibility to tailor the position to individual interests, whether that be a surgical focus, consult-only role, or a mixed caseload. The practice supports case continuity and encourages keeping work-ups in-house where possible, with access to visiting specialists. Strong emphasis is placed on clinical development and progression.

Team Size
The practice has a well-established and close-knit team, including experienced veterinary surgeons, a new graduate vet, a strong team of RVNs, 1 VCA, and a dedicated reception team. There is a high nurse-to-vet ratio, with nurses actively involved in Schedule 3 procedures and consultations.

Practice Details
This is a well-equipped first opinion practice with a strong client base, including a high proportion of insured clients, allowing for comprehensive in-house case management. The practice regularly works alongside visiting orthopaedic and cardiology specialists and maintains strong referral links with reputable clinics. Located with excellent transport links, the practice is easily accessible from London and Cambridge.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have 2–3 years of clinical experience and be confident managing routine cases. They should be passionate about patient and client care, eager to develop their skills, and thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment. Flexibility, good communication skills, and a proactive attitude are highly valued.
