Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s practice is a well-established, locally owned small animal clinic, offering an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to step into a senior role within a supportive and progressive environment. The practice has been under local ownership for more than eight years and is led by highly experienced surgeons, creating a strong clinical setting for a vet looking to take on greater responsibility while continuing to develop their own interests. Clinical interests are actively encouraged, with certificate study supported and funded, allowing the role to evolve around personal ambitions and strengths.
Working Hours / Rota
The clinic is open from 8am to 7pm on weekdays and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. The Saturday rota is 1 in 3, consulting only and sole charge. Bank holidays are worked on a rota basis, and there are no Sunday commitments.
The team places real emphasis on work-life balance and can offer a somewhat flexible rota. In most cases, you will have a set weekday off each week, along with an early Friday finish 1 in 3. Time is protected throughout the day to help ensure notes, calls and catch-up tasks are completed, with leaving on time actively prioritised.
Role Description
This is a senior Veterinary Surgeon role suited to a positive and clinically confident vet who enjoys small animal medicine and is comfortable with general routine surgery. The diary is well managed, with each vet receiving at least one operating day per week. Standard consultations are 15 minutes, with 30-minute slots available for selected cases, alongside dedicated emergency and on-the-day appointments. Catch-up slots are built in every 60 to 90 minutes, with protected time for phone calls and admin.
The successful candidate will play an important part in helping lead the clinical team, particularly with the support of the wider leadership structure. There will also be involvement in supporting new graduate vets, making this a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys mentorship and team development.
Team Size
Our Client’s practice benefits from a skilled and supportive team environment made up of experienced veterinary surgeons, a highly capable nurse team led by a longstanding Head Nurse, a Veterinary Care Assistant, Client Care Advisors and a Practice Manager who is also RVN qualified. The team dynamic is collaborative, friendly and well structured, with strong clinical and operational support in place.
Practice Details
This is a standalone small animal practice with a strong focus on high-quality first opinion care. The clinic sees a broad and interesting caseload and aims to manage the majority of work internally, while also being within 45 minutes of a referral hospital when needed. The practice is currently working towards zero pain accreditation, so there is a real opportunity for a new team member to contribute to this development and help promote the initiative.
Facilities and equipment support a high standard of care across both medicine and surgery, allowing the team to work cases up thoroughly in-house and continue building on the services they already offer.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a positive and forward-thinking small animal vet with a growth mindset and a good sense of humour. A keen interest in small animal medicine is important, along with confidence in routine surgical procedures. This role would suit someone ready to take on senior responsibilities, help lead a clinical team and support less experienced colleagues, while also embracing opportunities for further development and certificate study.
