Job Description

Introduction

Our Client’s practice is a friendly, independent, three-site small animal practice located in West Berkshire, with its main branch set in a beautiful rural area between Reading and Newbury, alongside two branch surgeries.

Working Hours / Rota

This role offers either a 4-day or 4.5-day working week, with flexibility built into the rota to suit individual requirements. The position includes an equally shared Saturday morning rota. There is no overnight or main weekend out-of-hours responsibility, as this is fully covered by Vets Now. Some sole charge work will be required, particularly at branch sites, though clinical support is always available when needed.

Role Description

The role involves a balanced mix of consulting and operating, with exposure to both medical and surgical caseloads. The practice is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon who can help support and mentor younger vets within the team. There is strong encouragement for professional development, including full support for certificate study if desired. Additionally, there is potential for the successful candidate to take responsibility for, and further develop, one of the branch surgeries.

Team Size

You will be joining an established and supportive team of five veterinary surgeons working collaboratively across the three-site practice.

Practice Details

The practice is well equipped with modern diagnostic and clinical facilities, supporting a high standard of small animal care. The main branch is located in a scenic rural setting, with additional branch surgeries allowing for varied caseloads and working environments. The practice places a strong emphasis on professional development, clinical support, and maintaining a positive team culture.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon who is confident working independently when required and enjoys supporting less experienced colleagues. A proactive approach to clinical development is encouraged, with an interest in pursuing further qualifications welcomed. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to the rural location and multi-site nature of the role.

Medical Equipment

The practice is equipped with a range of modern diagnostic tools including digital x-ray, endoscopy and ultrasound, allowing the team to manage a varied medical and surgical caseload to a high clinical standard.
