Introduction
Our Client’s practice is a large, independent mixed veterinary group with a well-established small animal division at its core. With over 60 years of history in the local community, the practice has evolved into a multi-site operation, offering advanced in-house surgical and medical capabilities. The team prides itself on delivering high clinical standards while fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, allowing vets to grow and develop their skills with confidence.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working a 4-day week (8:30am – 6:30pm) with a fixed day off. There is no OOH requirement, as this is fully outsourced. One evening shift (until 7pm) is required every two weeks for telephone triage only and is paid. Weekend duties are on a 16-week rota, including two Saturdays (8:30am – 4:30pm) and two full weekends (Saturday 8:30am – 4:30pm and Sunday 10am – 2pm). The rota includes protected admin time, ensuring minimal late finishes.
Role Description
This role offers a varied and engaging caseload, with opportunities to work on both routine and complex medical and surgical cases. The practice encourages clinical freedom and actively supports vets in developing specific interests, including surgical bias if desired. You will have access to advanced procedures such as orthopaedics, BOAS surgery, and endoscopy, alongside mentorship from certificate holders and visiting specialists. The role is ideal for a vet looking to expand their clinical capabilities in a progressive and well-equipped environment.
Team Size
The team consists of 14 vets, including multiple certificate holders, supported by 9 RVNs, 2 SVNs, and a strong support staff team. The practice also benefits from visiting specialists in cardiology and ophthalmology, alongside external surgical mentors.
Practice Details
This is a well-equipped, multi-site practice with a strong reputation for providing advanced veterinary care in-house. Facilities include a dedicated orthopaedic and soft tissue theatre suite, alongside regular visits from specialists and access to referral-level procedures. The practice promotes continuous investment in both equipment and staff development, ensuring a high standard of clinical care across all disciplines.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a small animal vet with at least two years’ UK experience, confident in general practice and eager to develop further. A strong interest in surgery or medicine is welcomed, and those considering certificates or advanced qualifications will be fully supported. The candidate should be a team player with good communication skills and a proactive approach to learning and development.
