Introduction

Our Client is an independently owned practice based in Rottingdean, Brighton, looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join their growing first opinion team. This is an excellent opportunity for a GP Vet who enjoys building strong, lasting relationships with clients and patients, while working in a supportive independent environment with no out-of-hours requirements.

The practice has built an excellent reputation locally for kind, personal veterinary care and high standards of customer service. With a strong focus on continuity, autonomy and patient-centred care, this role would suit a vet looking to settle into a welcoming coastal clinic and become a familiar, trusted face within the local community.

Working Hours / Rota

This role can be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, with flexibility depending on the needs of the successful candidate. The full-time rota includes a regular day off on Thursday, and all vets are expected to work one evening clinic per week, finishing at 6:30pm.

The weekend rota is just 1:3 Saturday mornings, finishing at 12:30pm. There are no out-of-hours duties, as these are outsourced to a nearby provider. Overtime is unusual, but where the team does run late, overtime is paid, and staff are not expected to work additional hours for free.

Role Description

The successful candidate will be based at the Rottingdean clinic and will take sole charge of the village practice, continuing to build on its strong local reputation. The role offers a balanced mix of consultations and a small number of operations each day, making it ideal for a true GP Vet who enjoys variety across medicine, surgery and dentistry.

The caseload is first opinion small animal work, covering cats, dogs and small furries. The practice is looking for someone confident with routine and non-routine surgical and dental procedures, as well as someone who values excellent communication and client care. There is also support available for further development, including funded study towards an appropriate certificate if this is an area the successful candidate would like to pursue.

Team Size

The team includes two other part-time vets, two RVNs and a team of receptionists. The wider team is long-standing, supportive and focused on creating a positive working environment where individuals are encouraged to develop their own clinical interests and make the best decisions for their patients without pressure from targets.

Practice Details & Equipment

The practice is a small, well-equipped village clinic with one consulting room, an operating theatre and a small hospital area. It forms part of an established independent group with a long-standing reputation for clinical standards, team care and client continuity.

Equipment includes digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, an in-house laboratory, Vetscan Imagyst, microscopy, operating lights, a dental drill, height-adjustable tables, oxygen generators and air conditioning. The practice has also received multiple industry recognitions over the years and has been shortlisted for national and regional awards.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a Veterinary Surgeon with at least one year of experience, although the practice is particularly keen to speak with vets who have around two to three years of experience. RCVS registration and UK work authorisation are required.

This role would suit a confident GP Vet who enjoys both consulting and operating, and who is comfortable working in a sole charge setting. The successful candidate will be personable, communicative and keen to build close bonds with clients and patients while contributing to the continued growth of a respected independent coastal practice.
