Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned hospital seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their large and highly skilled clinical team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident all-round clinician looking to work within an RCVS-accredited 24-hour hospital offering advanced diagnostics, multidisciplinary support, and an extensive range of first opinion and outpatient services. Candidates with an exotic or ophthalmology bias are also encouraged to apply.
Working Hours / Rota
This is ideally a full-time position working 40 hours across a 4-day week, although part-time applications will also be considered. The rota includes 1 in 4 weekends and a minimal on-call commitment of approximately 3–4 times per year. There are no routine out-of-hours duties. Part-time candidates must be able to participate in the 1 in 4 weekend rota.
Role Description
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will manage a varied caseload across consultations, diagnostics, medicine, and surgery while benefiting from the resources of a busy 24-hour hospital. The role is suited to an experienced all-round clinician, although candidates looking to develop an exotic or ophthalmology focus will also be considered. With advanced diagnostics, experienced certificate holders, and a multidisciplinary rehabilitation service on site, there is significant scope to work up complex cases and further develop clinical interests.
Team Size
The hospital has a large multidisciplinary team including 14 Veterinary Surgeons, with certificate holders across surgery, exotics, and medicine, alongside colleagues pursuing further qualifications in surgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, and medicine. The experienced nursing team includes Schedule 3 and imaging-trained professionals and postgraduate certificate holders, supported by three Hydrotherapists, two Physiotherapists, and ten Client Care Advisers.
Practice Details & Equipment
The hospital is RCVS-accredited and operates from state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities. Clinical services include first opinion care, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, CT and MRI imaging, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and laser therapy. Facilities include CT and MRI alongside extensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities, allowing the team to provide gold-standard inpatient care and work up more complex cases on site.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon with strong all-round small animal skills and ideally previous UK practice experience, including a good understanding of UK veterinary regulations and client care expectations. You will be confident managing a varied caseload, committed to clinical excellence, and comfortable working within a large multidisciplinary hospital team. Candidates with a particular interest or experience in exotics or ophthalmology are also welcomed.
