Job Description

Introduction

Our Client is an independently owned, multi-award-winning veterinary practice where pets are treated as friends. They are now looking for an additional full-time or part-time Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their friendly and caring team. This role will be based mainly at a small village clinic near the coast, offering a close-knit working environment with excellent client continuity and a strong focus on patient care.

Working Hours / Rota

The ideal working pattern is 4 x 9.25-hour days, equalling 37 hours per week, with the day off usually being a Tuesday or Wednesday. A similar spread across 5 days can also be considered for candidates who prefer this structure. The rota includes 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, with no out-of-hours requirement. As a flexi-time employer, the practice is also open to discussing part-time hours and can offer flexibility around the right person.

Role Description

This is a varied RVN role within a supportive primary care environment, offering the opportunity to build strong one-to-one bonds with patients and their owners. Day-to-day duties will include carrying out nurse consultations, assisting Veterinary Surgeons in theatre and consultations, taking responsibility for inpatient care, assisting with patient admits and discharges, running laboratory samples, managing your own workspace, supporting work experience students, and clinical coaching of Student Veterinary Nurses once the practice achieves training practice status. The practice encourages nurses to follow their own goals and interests, while offering autonomy to make the best decisions for patients without the pressure of financial or other targets.

Team Size

The role will be based mainly at a smaller village clinic, supported by a wider team across the group. The team includes 3 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 other nurses and 4 receptionists, with many team members working on a job-share basis. The practice has a friendly, caring and collaborative culture where supporting each other is central to the way the team works.

Practice Details & Equipment

The role will be mainly based at a small village clinic with one consulting room and one theatre. The wider practice group has three clinics in total, with two coastal sites located very close to one another and a longer-established site based separately. The coastal clinics offer the same equipment and standard of customer care, with a strong focus on client continuity through a one-pet-one-vet approach. Equipment includes digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound, multiparameter monitors, in-house IDEXX laboratory machines for haematology, biochemistry and electrolytes, blood pressure monitors, microscope and Sedivue urinalysis.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. Candidates must be registered with the RCVS as an RVN, and some experience would be beneficial, although a new graduate who is growing in confidence with medical and surgical nursing will also be welcomed. The practice is looking for someone with excellent communication skills, good organisational ability, enthusiasm for self-improvement, and the ability to manage their own workload effectively. A candidate who enjoys building strong client and patient relationships would be well suited to the practice’s one-pet-one-vet approach.
