Veterinary Nurse (RVN)

Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned small animal practice in Hertford looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its friendly and close-knit team. The practice offers a supportive working environment where nurses are encouraged to contribute ideas, develop their clinical interests and enjoy genuine autonomy within their role.

Working Hours / Rota
Both full-time and part-time applications can be considered, with weekday shifts currently running from 8:45am–5:15pm or 10:45am–7:15pm, including a 30-minute lunch break.

Saturday mornings are shared on a 1:3 rota from 9am–1pm, with either time off in lieu or additional pay. There are no Sundays or out-of-hours duties.

Role Description
The successful RVN will enjoy a varied position covering all aspects of general nursing, including anaesthesia, inpatient care, theatre, laboratory work and nurse consultations. Nurses are encouraged to take ownership of their role and develop around their individual clinical interests and career ambitions.

The practice places particular value on nurse-led consultations and client education, while fully funded CPD and further development opportunities provide plenty of scope to continue building clinical skills.

Team Size
The practice has a small and collaborative team consisting of two Veterinary Surgeons, a Head Nurse and a small non-clinical support team. The practice also regularly works alongside visiting specialists, providing additional clinical exposure and learning opportunities.

Practice Details & Equipment
The purpose-built practice has separate cat and dog wards, an isolation unit, sterile theatre, digital X-ray, ultrasound, an in-house laboratory, microscope and capnography with pulse oximetry.

The practice has a loyal client base and focuses on allowing sufficient time to provide high-quality patient care, including 30-minute non-routine consultations. Visiting specialists in cardiology, diagnostic imaging and orthopaedics provide further exposure to more advanced cases.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse who is confident across general nursing duties, including anaesthesia, and enjoys being actively involved throughout the practice.

They should be compassionate, organised and proactive, with strong teamwork and communication skills. An interest in running nurse clinics, client education and continued development through CPD or further qualifications would be particularly suited to the role.
