Introduction
Our Client is a veterinary hospital based in Ellesmere Port, offering an affordable advanced referral service. The hospital is committed to ensuring pets receive high-quality surgical treatment with access to advanced procedures in a supportive clinical environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a specialist-led referral team, providing exposure to a varied and complex surgical caseload while developing advanced anaesthesia and theatre nursing skills.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week over 4 days, with shifts from 08:00 to 18:30.

Role Description
This is a theatre-based position where you will work closely with a highly experienced surgical veterinary team, including diploma-holding surgical specialists and RCVS Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Surgery. You will support the smooth running of the referral service, assisting with case planning and ensuring appropriate equipment and surgical consumables are available.

Your responsibilities will include patient preparation, monitoring anaesthesia for complex orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, delivering multimodal analgesia, and providing comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-operative care. You may also be required to act as a scrub nurse, maintaining sterility and demonstrating strong knowledge of veterinary surgical instrumentation.

The caseload includes advanced procedures such as TPLOs, fracture repairs, thoracotomies, BOAS surgeries, and perineal hernia repairs. You will also assist with advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT scans, and contribute to the internal and external referral process, liaising with referring practices and clients.

This role offers significant clinical development opportunities, particularly for nurses wishing to pursue or further develop certification in anaesthesia or surgical nursing.

Team Size
You will be working alongside diploma-holding surgical specialists, RCVS Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Surgery, and an established team of surgical referral nurses within a collaborative referral environment.

Practice Details
The hospital provides an advanced surgical referral service with a strong focus on orthopaedic and complex soft tissue procedures. Facilities support advanced orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, and CT imaging. The environment is designed to support high standards of surgical and anaesthetic care for complex referral cases.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with strong knowledge of surgical procedures, patient preparation, anaesthesia, and veterinary surgical equipment. Previous referral surgical experience is preferred but not essential. Certification in Veterinary Surgical Nursing or Anaesthesia is desirable, or a willingness to work towards certification.

You will be confident working in a theatre environment, capable of performing in a high-pressure setting, and possess excellent communication and organisational skills. A proactive approach and passion for advanced surgical nursing are essential.
