Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is an independently owned, not-for-profit veterinary hospital providing accessible, affordable, high-quality veterinary care. As the UK’s only veterinary Community Interest Company (CIC), the organisation is committed to ensuring pets receive the treatment they need through transparent pricing and free daytime consultations. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join the specialist-led referral surgery team, supporting a varied caseload of advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week across a four-day week, from 8:00am to 6:30pm. There are no weekend or out-of-hours commitments, offering an excellent work-life balance.
Role Description
This theatre-based role offers the opportunity to work alongside Specialist Surgeons and RCVS Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Surgery, supporting a busy referral service. You will be responsible for monitoring anaesthesia, preparing patients for surgery, delivering multimodal analgesia, assisting as a scrub nurse when required, and providing exceptional pre, intra and post-operative nursing care. Additional responsibilities include carrying out diagnostic imaging, including CT scans, managing specialist surgical equipment and implants, coordinating referral cases, and communicating treatment plans with the inpatient team. The role offers excellent opportunities to further develop surgical and anaesthesia skills, with support towards additional certification.
Team Size
You will join a highly experienced referral team comprising Specialist Surgeons (Diploma holders), RCVS Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Surgery and an established team of dedicated surgical referral nurses, working collaboratively to deliver outstanding patient care.
Practice Details & Equipment
The hospital provides a specialist-led referral service focused on advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. The caseload includes TPLOs, fracture repairs, thoracic surgery, BOAS procedures, portosystemic shunt surgery and other complex surgical cases. The practice also utilises advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT, enabling the team to provide comprehensive surgical care in-house.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with confidence in anaesthesia and working within a theatre environment. Previous referral nursing experience is desirable but not essential, and applications are welcomed from nurses who hold, or wish to work towards, a certificate in Veterinary Surgical Nursing or Anaesthesia. Strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform well in a busy referral setting are essential.
