Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is an independently owned practice/hospital and operates a long-established small animal hospital based in the New Forest area. The practice is supported by a large and friendly team of 13 full-time equivalent Veterinary Surgeons and 22 Registered Veterinary Nurses, including certificate holders and Advanced Practitioners. The main hospital site acts as the central hub for surgery and out-of-hours services, supported by additional branch practices. The team places strong emphasis on collaboration, professional development, and high standards of patient care.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a dedicated out-of-hours role. The preferred shift pattern is seven nights on followed by fourteen nights off, although alternative working patterns can be considered for the right candidate. The role includes responsibility for inpatient care and emergency case management overnight, supported by 24-hour on-site nursing staff.

Role Description
The Veterinary Surgeon will contribute to the out-of-hours emergency and critical care service, managing inpatient cases and assessing and treating emergency presentations. During quieter periods, there will also be involvement in prescription management and administrative tasks. The role requires confident decision-making, strong communication skills, and the ability to deliver high standards of emergency and critical care within a supportive and cohesive team environment.

Team Size
You will join a well-established and collaborative team of 13 Veterinary Surgeons and 22 Nurses, including several certificate holders and Advanced Practitioners. The practice is also a nurse training practice and actively supports new graduates and career progression.

Practice Details
The hospital is well equipped to support advanced emergency and surgical care, with facilities including digital radiography, dental X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and laparoscopic equipment. The practice provides its own out-of-hours service for clients and benefits from 24-hour on-site nursing support. Located in the New Forest, the area offers excellent access to coastline, national park countryside, and nearby cities with strong transport links.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a confident and competent Emergency and Critical Care clinician with strong communication skills and a patient-focused approach. You will be comfortable working overnight within a team environment and capable of managing a varied emergency caseload independently. A collaborative mindset and commitment to high clinical standards are essential.
