Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned Hospital seeking an experienced Night Veterinary Surgeon to join their large multidisciplinary team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a proactive hospital environment, supported by certificate holders and extensive facilities.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time OOH role working a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota. Shifts are 8am to 8pm. You will be part of a dedicated night team including 1 night nurse, 1 senior RVN, 2 VCAs, a receptionist until 10pm, and a twilight RVN working until midnight. Half-hour OOH consults are standard. There are no additional OOH commitments outside of the structured rota.

Role Description
This role focuses on emergency and critical care within a busy 24-hour hospital environment. The successful candidate will manage a complex caseload including emergency surgeries such as caesareans, pyometra cases, exploratory laparotomies with enterotomy and enterectomy, alongside complex medical cases including Addisonian crises, diabetic ketoacidosis, and severe pancreatitis. The hospital supports advanced ECC procedures including oesophageal tube placements, Seldinger chest drains, silicone abdominal peritoneal drains, pig tail urinary catheters, TFAST/AFAST scans, endoscopy, negative pressure wound therapy, and urinary catheterisation. You will work collaboratively with certificate holders in surgery, medicine, endosurgery, and dentistry, with strong clinical and management support. CPD and certificate development are actively encouraged.

Team Size
The hospital employs around 70 colleagues, including 15 Vets, alongside a large team of nurses and support staff. The team benefits from in-house certificate holders and strong peer collaboration across disciplines.

Practice Details
This is a purpose-built, bright, air-conditioned hospital designed to industry-leading standards. It is RCVS Accredited and operates as both a Hospital and Emergency Service Clinic. Facilities include a full IDEXX laboratory suite, Digital X-Ray, Ultrasound, ECG, IM3 dental machine, IM3 dental X-ray, Orthopaedic Surgical Kit, Endoscopy, and Tonopen. The hospital provides referral-level diagnostics and treatment in-house while maintaining first opinion continuity of care.
