Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned veterinary hospital providing a comprehensive 24-hour service with a dedicated out-of-hours team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for emergency and critical care to join a supportive overnight team, delivering exceptional care to hospitalised and emergency patients within a busy hospital environment.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working 39 hours per week. The rota consists of 12-hour night shifts from Sunday to Tuesday, plus one in four Saturday night shifts.

Role Description
As a Night Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding overnight care to hospitalised and emergency patients. Responsibilities include monitoring critical care cases, assisting veterinary surgeons with emergency procedures and inpatient care, monitoring anaesthesia, administering medications and fluid therapy, supporting diagnostic procedures including radiography and blood sampling, and maintaining accurate clinical records. You will also be responsible for developing and reviewing nursing care plans, ensuring effective patient handovers, communicating with clients regarding emergency cases, maintaining high clinical and hygiene standards, supporting stock control and contributing to the smooth operation of the out-of-hours service. This role offers excellent exposure to emergency and critical care while working alongside an experienced overnight team.

Team Size
You will work closely with a dedicated out-of-hours team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses and support staff who are committed to delivering exceptional emergency and inpatient care throughout the night.

Practice Details
The practice is a busy 24-hour veterinary hospital providing both first opinion and emergency care. With dedicated inpatient facilities, modern diagnostic capabilities and an established out-of-hours service, the hospital offers an excellent environment for nurses looking to further develop their emergency and critical care skills.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with at least one year’s post-qualification experience, although this is preferred rather than essential. You should be confident in anaesthesia, inpatient nursing and emergency patient care, with excellent organisational and communication skills. A compassionate, proactive approach and the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced hospital environment are essential, alongside a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and continuous professional development.
