Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned small animal practice in Stoke-on-Trent looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon following a recent leadership transition. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet seeking genuine clinical autonomy and the chance to shape the future direction of a practice while retaining access to an experienced wider support network.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30am–6pm. There are no weekend or out-of-hours requirements.
Role Description
The successful Lead Veterinary Surgeon will combine hands-on clinical responsibilities across consultations and surgery with the leadership and development of the practice. They will have significant autonomy to influence clinical standards, team development and the future direction of the practice while maintaining high standards of patient and client care.
The position offers strong longer-term progression, including a Lead Vet bonus scheme, funded professional development and a potential pathway to partnership for the right individual if desired.
Team Size
The Lead Vet will be supported by an established local team including a Practice Manager, Registered Veterinary Nurse, Head Veterinary Nurse, Veterinary Care Assistant and Client Care Assistant. Further clinical support is available through nearby practices and the wider veterinary network.
Practice Details & Equipment
The practice is equipped with digital X-ray, dental X-ray, ultrasound and an in-house laboratory, supporting a broad first-opinion medical and surgical caseload.
More advanced diagnostics, including CT and endoscopy, are available through the wider hospital and practice network, allowing complex cases to benefit from additional facilities and expertise when required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified MRCVS who is confident clinically and ready to take responsibility for leading and developing a practice. They should be comfortable across consultations and surgery, with strong communication, leadership and team-working skills.
The role would particularly suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to progress into a Lead Vet position or an established clinical leader seeking greater autonomy, with the option to explore partnership progression in the future.
