Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned standalone practice seeking a Head Veterinary Surgeon to join their spacious, light-filled surgery in Alsager, Cheshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced vet looking to take the next step into a leadership role, with genuine clinical freedom and direct collaboration with the practice owner. Decisions are made locally, allowing your professional opinions to be heard and implemented quickly.

Working Hours / Rota
Full or part-time hours are available, offering genuine flexibility to support work–life balance.

The rota includes 1 in 4 Saturday mornings (9:00am – 12:00pm).

There are no Sundays and no out-of-hours requirements.

Role Description
This role is ideally suited to an experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready to step into a Head Vet position. You will play an integral role in mentoring junior vets, maintaining high clinical standards and supporting the continued development of the practice.

You will manage a varied medical and surgical caseload with complete clinical freedom. Special interests are encouraged, and the practice already supports exotics, wound management, radiography and surgical development.

If you are not yet ready to formally step into a Head Vet title, career pathway discussions are welcomed to support progression at a pace that suits you.

Team Size
You will work alongside the practice owner and a supportive team consisting of 3 Veterinary Surgeons (2 FTE), 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 1 Student Veterinary Nurse and 2 Receptionists.

Two of the vets are highly experienced, providing strong peer support, while another has a special interest in exotics. The team culture is friendly and collaborative, with regular team days out to strengthen morale.

Practice Details
The practice is a standalone surgery located on the main street in Alsager. It is spacious, bright and equipped with modern facilities including digital X-ray, ultrasound, blood pressure monitoring equipment and an in-house laboratory.

The practice is proudly recognised as a certified Autism Friendly Surgery, reflecting its inclusive and community-focused ethos.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident in both medicine and surgery.

You will demonstrate leadership qualities, a commitment to mentoring junior colleagues and a passion for maintaining high clinical standards.

Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach and a desire to contribute meaningfully to a community-focused practice are essential.
