Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a purpose-built small animal practice based in Lincoln that is looking for an experienced Head Veterinary Surgeon to lead the next stage of its clinical development. This is a rare opportunity to take responsibility for a modern surgery with a loyal client base, an experienced nursing team and considerable potential for continued growth.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working 39 hours across four days per week, alongside a 1:4 weekend rota. There are no routine out-of-hours duties, although the Head Vet will need to remain available on an on-call basis when the practice has overnight inpatients.

Role Description
The Head Veterinary Surgeon will lead clinical standards while managing a varied small animal GP caseload. Working closely with the Head Nurse and management team, you will support and mentor the veterinary team, develop clinical services and help colleagues progress their individual interests.
The practice has an engaged client base that values thorough investigations and preventative care, with more than 40% of clients enrolled on a healthcare plan.

Team Size
The team includes an experienced GP Vet and a strong nursing team led by a highly experienced Head Nurse, alongside four RVNs, with recruitment underway for a Deputy Head Nurse. The nurses are confident across Schedule 3 duties, orthopaedic and complex soft-tissue procedures, dentistry, radiography and nurse-led clinics.
The wider team includes four Customer Experience Coordinators and two weekend Animal Care Assistants, with additional support available from experienced clinicians in surgery, ophthalmology, imaging, internal medicine and cardiology.

Practice Details
The practice has recently undergone a successful period of rebuilding and now has a stable, enthusiastic team with renewed focus and ambition. The successful candidate will join the management team and play a key role in developing a permanent veterinary team.
The modern, purpose-built surgery is spacious, well maintained and designed around efficient clinical workflows and a positive patient experience. The wider group continues to invest in facilities, colleague development and certificate-level training, with access to additional clinical support across a range of disciplines.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced small animal GP Vet who is confident managing a varied caseload and supporting more complex investigations and treatment plans.
Previous leadership experience would be beneficial, although experienced clinicians ready to step into their first Head Vet role will also be considered. You should be passionate about mentoring others, raising clinical standards and building a positive, collaborative team.
