Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned practice that is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly and supportive team, with the opportunity to take on or progress into a Lead/Head Vet position. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident Vet looking to develop their clinical and leadership skills within a modern, well-equipped small animal practice that places a strong emphasis on professional development and high standards of patient care.
Working Hours / Rota
The position is ideally full-time, working approximately 40–41 hours per week, although part-time hours and flexible working arrangements can be considered. Weekend duties are shared on a 1 in 4 rota, with Saturdays running from 9am–6pm and Sundays from 10:30am–4:30pm. Bank holiday duties are shared on a rota basis, with no out-of-hours requirements.
Role Description
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will manage a varied small animal caseload, including consultations, diagnostics and routine surgical procedures, while maintaining high standards of clinical and patient care. An interest in internal medicine would be particularly welcomed, alongside enthusiasm for developing further clinical expertise.
The role offers excellent opportunities for progression into a senior leadership position, with support from an experienced Clinical Director who holds postgraduate qualifications in small animal surgery and advanced orthopaedics. The practice actively encourages professional development, with opportunities to pursue certificates, develop specialist interests and take on more advanced cases.
Team Size
The practice has a supportive and collaborative team consisting of 3 Veterinary Surgeons, a Clinical Director, 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Student Veterinary Nurses, a Practice Manager, a Practice Director, a Reception Manager and 4 Client Care Advisors. Both clinical and management leadership are based on-site, providing additional support and guidance.
Practice Details & Equipment
The practice is a modern, purpose-built small animal surgery with excellent facilities, including digital X-ray, dental X-ray, flexible endoscopes for bronchoscopy and gastrointestinal procedures, access to CT imaging, and orthopaedic equipment for cruciate, patella luxation and fracture repairs, including TPLO procedures.
Additional equipment includes multi-parameter monitors, nerve locators, infusion pumps and CRI systems, supporting a strong focus on modern anaesthesia and pain management. The practice also offers laparoscopic spays, laser therapy and pet travel certification services.
Ideal Candidate
Our Client is looking for an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with ideally at least 3 years of UK small animal practice experience, who is confident performing routine surgical procedures and managing a varied clinical caseload. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a compassionate approach to patient care and a collaborative attitude towards colleagues.
An interest in internal medicine would be advantageous, and certificate holders or those currently working towards further qualifications are particularly encouraged to apply. The practice would welcome an ambitious Vet looking to develop their leadership skills and progress into a more senior clinical position.
