Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a well-established small animal practice located in Calne, Wiltshire. The practice has a loyal client base and a varied caseload, offering a welcoming and supportive environment for both patients and colleagues.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and forward-thinking Lead Veterinary Surgeon to guide a friendly team, drive clinical excellence, and build upon the practice’s strong community reputation.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a permanent full-time or part-time position working 3–4 days per week. The rota includes 1 in 3 Saturday mornings. There are no Bank Holidays and no on-call commitments. Flexible working options are available and can be discussed to suit individual needs.

Role Description
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day clinical leadership of the practice, setting high standards in both medicine and surgery. You will mentor and develop RVNs, support student training, and contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.

The role involves delivering exceptional patient care in consultations and surgery, managing routine and more complex cases with referral support when required, and building strong client relationships through clear and confident communication.

You will work closely with the Head Nurse to oversee case continuity, rota planning, and workflow management. There is genuine autonomy to develop services, champion high-level care, and shape the future direction of the practice.

Team Size
You will lead and collaborate with an established nursing and support team within a friendly practice environment, with access to a wider regional clinical network for additional support and expertise.

Practice Details
The practice is equipped with modern facilities expected in a progressive GP setting, including digital X-ray, ultrasound, dental facilities, and an in-house laboratory. Referral, imaging, and ECC support are available through the wider network.

Situated in Calne, Wiltshire, the location offers a balance of community living with access to the surrounding countryside.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified MRCVS with solid small animal experience and a passion for leadership. You will be confident in routine surgery and medicine, comfortable managing more complex cases with referral support, and enthusiastic about mentoring and developing colleagues.

A certificate holder, or someone working towards a certificate, would be advantageous. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to maintaining high clinical standards are essential.
