Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned practice seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, community-focused first opinion practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident clinician ready to take the next step into leadership, guiding an established and supportive team while helping shape the future clinical direction and continued growth of the practice.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time permanent position. The role includes participation in a 1 in 6 weekend rota at a nearby 24-hour hospital, along with involvement in the on-call rota. This provides exposure to a varied and advanced caseload while maintaining a balanced working pattern.

Role Description
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be responsible for providing exceptional clinical care while leading and mentoring the veterinary team. Alongside consultations and surgical procedures, you will oversee clinical standards, ensure regulatory compliance, support colleague development, and work closely with senior management to drive both clinical excellence and commercial success. You will play a key role in developing a progressive clinical culture, mentoring graduates and colleagues, managing client relationships, and contributing to the continued growth of the practice. Working within a hub-and-spoke model also provides access to more complex referral cases and advanced clinical support through a nearby 24-hour hospital.

Team Size
You will lead a close-knit and collaborative practice team, working alongside experienced veterinary surgeons, qualified nurses, and dedicated support staff. The wider veterinary network provides additional clinical expertise and opportunities for collaboration across neighbouring practices and referral services.

Practice Details
The practice is well-established within the local community and is recognised for delivering compassionate, high-quality first opinion veterinary care. Clinical interests within the team include ophthalmology, surgery, and dentistry, with additional support available through the wider hub-and-spoke network and a nearby 24-hour hospital. This structure offers excellent opportunities to manage both routine and more advanced cases while benefiting from collaborative clinical support and continued professional development.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon with proven clinical experience and the confidence to lead and inspire a veterinary team. You will demonstrate excellent leadership, mentoring, coaching, and communication skills, alongside a commitment to delivering outstanding patient and client care. A passion for developing colleagues, maintaining high clinical standards, and contributing to the commercial and clinical success of the practice is essential.
