Job Description

Introduction
Our Client’s clinic in Birkenhead is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to take on a leadership role within the team. This is a fantastic opportunity to combine clinical excellence with team leadership, within a supportive environment focused on delivering high-quality and accessible veterinary care.

Working Hours / Rota
This role is based on a 38-hour week across 4 days, with 10-hour shifts between 8:00am and 7:00pm (including a 1-hour unpaid lunch). The rota includes 1 in 9 Saturdays. No out-of-hours (OOH) requirements are stated.

Role Description
This is a leadership-focused Veterinary Surgeon role, responsible for guiding and mentoring the clinical team to ensure consistently high standards of care. You will work closely with the Practice Manager and Lead Nurse to support day-to-day operations, contribute to performance evaluation through KPIs and P&L, and lead clinical governance and team meetings. The role combines clinical duties with leadership responsibilities, including coaching team members, conducting 1-2-1s, and supporting professional development. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact both clinically and operationally.

Team Size
You will lead and support a team of veterinary professionals, working collaboratively with the Practice Manager and Lead Nurse within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Practice Details
The clinic operates as part of a Community Interest Company, focused on reinvesting profits into patient care and team development. The practice handles a varied caseload and promotes a collaborative, non-hierarchical culture centred on clinical excellence and accessibility of care.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with strong leadership and communication skills. You will be confident mentoring and supporting colleagues, leading meetings, and contributing to practice performance. A VetGDP qualification (or willingness to obtain one) is desirable. Candidates should be passionate about delivering high standards of care while fostering a positive and supportive team environment.
