Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned small animal practice in North West London looking for a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse, or an experienced RVN ready to take their first step into a leadership position. The practice has grown significantly over the past two years and offers a friendly, progressive environment with a strong emphasis on clinical standards, professional development and team support.

Working Hours / Rota
This is ideally a full-time position working 40 hours per week, although part-time applications can also be considered. The practice offers flexibility around the rota where possible.

Saturday duties are shared on a 1:3 basis with time off in lieu, and there are no out-of-hours requirements.

Role Description
The Head RVN will take an active role in both clinical nursing and the ongoing development of the nursing team. The position includes running nurse-led clinics covering areas such as weight management, diabetes and behaviour, alongside second vaccinations, post-operative checks and Schedule 3 procedures including dental scale and polish.

A key part of the position will be supporting and coaching Student Veterinary Nurses while helping to shape the continued development of the practice. Clinical coach experience would be beneficial, although training and support can be provided for an experienced RVN looking to develop in this area and progress into their first Head Nurse position.

Team Size
The clinical team currently includes 3.5 Veterinary Surgeons, one RVN, three Student Veterinary Nurses and one Veterinary Care Assistant, alongside an experienced Practice Manager. The team is also supported by visiting orthopaedic surgeons and an ultrasonographer.

Practice Details & Equipment
The purpose-built small animal practice has a full in-house laboratory, ultrasound, digital X-ray and dental X-ray facilities. The Head Vet is currently undertaking a Dermatology Certificate, while visiting clinicians provide additional orthopaedic and ultrasonography expertise.

The practice is easily accessible by road and public transport, with onsite parking and good connections across London and the surrounding areas.

Ideal Candidate
The practice is looking for either an established Head RVN or an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse ready to progress into a leadership role. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a lead-by-example approach, alongside the confidence to support and develop other members of the nursing team.

Clinical coach experience would be advantageous but is not essential, with support available for someone keen to gain the qualification. An interest in nurse-led clinics, Schedule 3 procedures and developing both clinical and leadership skills would suit the position particularly well.
