Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is an independently owned veterinary practice and part of one of the UK’s largest family-owned veterinary groups. This is an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a modern, purpose-built practice, supporting the Head Nurse in leading a dedicated nursing team while helping to deliver exceptional patient care and an outstanding client experience.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position, typically working a four-day week with nine-hour shifts across a mixture of consulting, inpatient and surgical duties. The role includes participation in a one-in-four weekend rota and duty nights on rotation. Flexible working patterns are available and can be discussed during the recruitment process.
Role Description
As Deputy Head Nurse, you will work closely with the Head Nurse to support the day-to-day leadership of the nursing team, helping to drive clinical excellence, governance, efficiency and continuous improvement throughout the practice. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will remain actively involved in clinical nursing, including consultations, inpatient care and theatre work across a varied caseload. You will mentor colleagues, support professional development within the team and help maintain the highest standards of patient care and customer service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced RVN looking to take the next step into leadership while continuing to enjoy hands-on clinical work.
Team Size
You will join a friendly and collaborative team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses and support staff, many of whom are undertaking further qualifications and certificate training. The practice places a strong emphasis on teamwork, continuous learning and supporting colleagues to reach their full potential.
Practice Details & Equipment
The practice is a modern, purpose-built veterinary surgery equipped with the latest technology to support a high standard of first opinion care. As one of the newest practices within the group, it offers spacious clinical facilities and a varied caseload, with ongoing investment in equipment, services and staff development. The team provides care in a welcoming environment where both colleagues and clients are well supported.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with strong clinical nursing skills and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional patient care. Previous leadership experience would be beneficial, although experienced RVNs ready to step into a leadership role are also encouraged to apply. You will be an excellent communicator, thrive within a collaborative team, enjoy mentoring colleagues and be committed to continuous professional development and maintaining high clinical standards.
