Nurses are encouraged to utilise their clinical skills fully, develop their individual interests and play an active role in shaping clinical standards and team development.
Working Hours / Rota
The practice can offer flexible full-time or part-time working patterns between 30 and 40 hours per week, with rotas tailored where possible to individual requirements. Saturday duties are shared on a one-in-four basis, with no out-of-hours responsibilities.
Role Description
As Head RVN, you will combine hands-on clinical nursing with leadership and team development responsibilities. The role includes nurse consultations, anaesthetic monitoring, inpatient care and supporting a varied clinical caseload, while helping to mentor and develop nursing colleagues and maintain excellent clinical standards. Nurses are encouraged to develop additional skills, with existing interests across the wider team including acupuncture, pain management, behaviour and Schedule 3 surgical procedures. You will have strong leadership support and excellent opportunities to continue progressing clinically and professionally.
Team Size
Across three local practices, the wider team consists of approximately 60 colleagues, including 14 Veterinary Surgeons, 12 RVNs and 2 Veterinary Care Assistants. The clinical team also includes three GP Development-trained Clinical Lead Vets and three Clinical Coach RVNs, providing an experienced support network for continued development.
Practice Details & Equipment
The practice forms part of a three-site veterinary group with a strong focus on clinical development, collaboration and work-life balance. Nurses have access to modern clinical equipment including multiparameter monitors, fluid pumps, blood pressure monitors and ultrasound. Support is also available across the wider group from experienced Head Nurses, Senior Nurses and dedicated nursing leadership.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse who is ready to take the next step in their career and confidently lead and support others. You will be positive, proactive and team-focused, with excellent clinical and client care standards. Strong communication skills, a willingness to mentor colleagues and the confidence to take ownership when required will be important, alongside a genuine enthusiasm for continued professional development.
