Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s hospital is a state-of-the-art referral centre in Surrey, supporting veterinary practices across the South-East. Following a recent relaunch and continued growth, the hospital offers a modern and progressive environment, delivering advanced clinical care across a wide range of referral disciplines.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. The rota includes a fair share of night and weekend shifts, shared across the nursing team. The structure ensures consistent patient care while maintaining balance across the team.
Role Description
This is a senior leadership position as a Head Veterinary Nurse within a referral hospital setting. You will lead and manage a team of RVNs and VCAs, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the clinic while maintaining exceptional standards of patient and client care.
Clinical duties include supporting advanced surgical procedures, anaesthesia, inpatient care, and diagnostic imaging. You will also be responsible for promoting nurse-led clinics and Schedule 3 procedures, while implementing and maintaining high clinical and operational standards.
A key aspect of the role is mentoring, coaching, and developing the nursing team, contributing to a progressive clinical culture and supporting continuous improvement across the practice.
Team Size
You will lead a team of RVNs and VCAs, working closely alongside specialist veterinary surgeons and Advanced Veterinary Practitioners in a collaborative and highly skilled environment.
Practice Details
The hospital is a fully equipped referral centre offering advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Facilities include CT, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, a radioactive iodine ward, and a dedicated cat ward. The clinic works alongside specialists in medicine, ophthalmology, and surgery, providing a diverse and complex caseload. The practice is undergoing continued development, offering excellent opportunities to shape its future growth.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse with strong leadership skills and referral experience. You will be confident managing and developing a clinical team, with a proven ability to implement high standards of care and progressive clinical practices. Excellent communication, coaching, and organisational skills are essential, along with a passion for delivering outstanding patient and client care.
