Medivet’s Restructure — What It Means for the Veterinary Industry
It’s been widely reported that Medivet is undergoing a significant period of restructuring, with multiple roles currently under review across the business. Naturally, news like this creates uncertainty; not just within Medivet itself, but across the wider veterinary sector.
However, restructuring isn’t always the bad news it’s perceived to be. In many cases, it signals a company realigning for future growth. From my professional perspective, Medivet’s move seems clearly focused on reinforcing their Partnership Model, which they aim to expand dramatically throughout 2025 and 2026 with an ambitious goal of having all clinics co-owned by partners by 2027.
That kind of transformation doesn’t come without some difficult decisions. There will be short-term disruption, but if executed well, it sets the foundation for a stronger and more sustainable business model in the long run.
As recruiters, we get a unique insight into the health of the veterinary sector. Hiring behaviour often mirrors the state of the market, when recruitment slows, it can be an early sign of wider economic tightening; when it picks up, it usually means renewed confidence and investment.
Over the past 12 months, we’ve observed a gradual decline in job openings and team expansion across the UK. While hiring hasn’t stopped, it certainly slowed, until recently. In the past month or two, there’s been a clear uptick, which is encouraging.
Historically, the period from November through February tends to be quieter for permanent recruitment, as the pre-Christmas slowdown merges into the January lull before that first payday hits.
That’s what makes Medivet’s strategy particularly interesting. At a time when much of the industry is treading carefully, they’re actively investing in their partnership model and redefining their structure to align with it. Yes, this will mean some people leaving the organisation, but it also opens up incredible opportunities for ambitious, confident, and experienced vets who want to be part of a forward-thinking model with a clear direction.
At Tempus Recruitment, we’re here to support veterinary professionals through these changes, whether you’re leaving a role as part of the restructure or looking to seize one of the new opportunities emerging from it.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need guidance or simply someone to talk to. We’ve also been proud to work alongside Not One More Vet over the past year, and we’d strongly recommend connecting with them if you’re struggling, they’re doing incredible work for the veterinary community.
