Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a locally owned, corporately supported veterinary practice seeking an experienced and confident Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly and well-established team in Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet with a passion for mentoring and a broad GP skillset who enjoys working within a close-knit, supportive environment.
The practice has been locally owned since 2020 and prides itself on its strong community reputation and long-standing team. It has achieved RCVS “Outstanding” accreditation for both Client Care and Inpatient Services — reflecting its commitment to delivering exceptional veterinary care and customer service.
If you’re looking for a team that values collaboration, personal growth, and genuine work-life balance, this could be the ideal next step in your career.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time role, however, flexible hours can be considered to suit the right candidate.
There are no out-of-hours duties, and weekends are limited to 1 in 3 Saturday mornings.
The practice closes at 6 pm several days per week, allowing for a healthy work-life balance.
Role Description
This position is ideal for a well-rounded GP vet who enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery. You’ll have the autonomy to work cases from consultation to completion, supported by a skilled nursing and client care team.
The practice’s days are structured and well-organised, with 20-minute consults as standard and regular team catch-ups built into the day. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced multi-certificate holder and a senior surgeon, ensuring access to strong clinical mentorship and peer support.
If you have a passion for mentoring, the team is particularly keen to welcome someone interested in becoming a Vet GDP Advisor, as they continue to develop and support new graduate colleagues.
Team Size
You’ll be joining a close, supportive team consisting of two experienced Veterinary Surgeons, a recent graduate vet, Registered Veterinary Nurses, a Veterinary Care Assistant, and client care colleagues — all led by an approachable and dedicated Practice Owner. The team is known for its friendly atmosphere, mutual respect, and shared focus on providing outstanding patient care.
Practice Details
The practice is located in a purpose-built, standalone building with excellent facilities, situated within a busy retail area with easy parking and nearby amenities. It’s also within walking distance of public transport links and just a short journey from the coast and popular local attractions.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with a minimum of two years’ post-qualification experience in small animal practice. You should be confident in all aspects of general medicine and surgery, enjoy building relationships with clients, and take pride in being part of a collaborative, high-performing team.
An interest in mentoring or supporting newly qualified vets is highly desirable, and training for Vet GDP Advisor status can be supported.
You’ll be joining a practice where work-life balance is genuinely valued, and where your ideas, development, and wellbeing are central to the team’s success.
