Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s hospital is a purpose-built, RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital located in Wakefield. The facility is state-of-the-art and supports a large, highly skilled team managing a varied and advanced surgical caseload, making it an excellent environment for a surgically focused Veterinary Surgeon.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time or part-time permanent role with a fixed day off each week. The rota includes 1 in 4 weekends and no regular out-of-hours (OOH) commitments.
Role Description
This is a Senior Veterinary Surgeon position with a strong surgical focus. The role involves performing both routine and advanced surgical procedures, including orthopaedics such as TPLO and patella luxation surgeries, with mentorship available if required. You will work closely with the Surgical Director, take on surgical referrals within your skillset, and support post-operative care. The role also includes mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to ongoing clinical development within the team. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop advanced surgical skills in a well-equipped and supportive hospital environment.
Team Size
The hospital is supported by a large and experienced team of 18 vets, including multiple certificate holders, alongside a skilled nursing and support team, creating a collaborative and highly knowledgeable environment.
Practice Details
This is a modern, purpose-built and RCVS-accredited hospital offering advanced facilities and equipment. The hospital manages a diverse and complex caseload and includes a dedicated surgical team. The role is primarily based at the main hospital site, with one operating day at a nearby branch practice.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong surgical background. A PgC in surgery (or working towards one) is preferred, with experience in orthopaedics being highly desirable. You should have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and within a team. A passion for mentoring and delivering high standards of patient care is essential.
