Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s practice is an established branch located in Hillingdon is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon who thrives on building lasting client relationships and becoming the trusted, go-to vet for local pet owners. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking to settle into a supportive suburban setting while delivering high-quality first opinion care.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a part-time position working 33.45 hours per week across three days. The rota includes a 1:3 branch Saturday rotation and a 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation, along with up to two bank holidays per year at the nearby hospital. There are no on-call requirements. Flexible options are available, including the possibility of a split rota across local sites for added variety.
Role Description
This is a sole charge first-opinion GP role with a manageable caseload, allowing you to balance morning consultations, routine surgical procedures, administrative duties, and evening consults comfortably within your day. Responsibilities include carrying out thorough consultations and examinations, performing surgery within your level of competence, prescribing and dispensing medications in line with current legislation and RCVS guidance, maintaining accurate and detailed clinical records, and referring cases appropriately when required. You will also oversee the consulting and surgical diary, ensure compliance with company policies and SOPs, support branch meetings alongside the RVN, and help foster a respectful and collaborative team environment. Referral support is readily available through a nearby hospital for advanced diagnostics, surgery, and overnight hospitalisation.
Team Size
You will be supported by two highly experienced team members who have been with the practice for over 20 years and take great pride in its strong community reputation. In addition, you will have access to a dedicated regional manager and regional head vet for clinical and operational support.
Practice Details
The practice benefits from close proximity to a well-equipped hospital offering advanced referral services. Hospital facilities include a CT scanner, ultrasound services led by a diploma holder in imaging, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons performing advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive procedures on-site, along with overnight hospitalisation facilities. The wider group includes multiple branches, hospitals, and a nurse training college, with a strong emphasis on professional development, colleague wellbeing, and collaborative leadership.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon confident in sole charge and comfortable managing a first-opinion GP caseload independently. You will have strong consultation and surgical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine passion for building long-term client relationships within a community setting. A proactive, organised approach and sound clinical judgement, including timely referral decisions, are essential.
