Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned practice/hospital and operates a large, well-established small animal practice based in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. This central practice benefits from a loyal client base, strong leadership structure, and a highly experienced nursing and support team. The role presents an excellent opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon with a medical bias to join a supportive, well-equipped environment while maintaining an excellent work-life balance.
Working Hours / Rota
This role is offered on a full-time basis, working 40 hours across four days per week. The weekend rota is one in six Saturdays, worked at a nearby site between 9:00am and 5:00pm. There are no out-of-hours duties, and Bank Holiday cover is limited to approximately one day per year at a 24-hour hospital. Part-time working arrangements can be considered and discussed to suit individual needs.
Role Description
The Veterinary Surgeon will deliver high-quality first-opinion veterinary care, with a primary focus on medical case management and minimal routine surgery. Responsibilities include consultations, diagnostics, treatment planning, and ongoing case management, working collaboratively with a supportive clinical team. You will have access to strong internal referral pathways, advanced equipment, and clinical communities, allowing you to practise to a high standard while continuing to develop your skills and interests.
Team Size
You will work alongside a Practice Manager, Lead Veterinary Surgeon, Head Registered Veterinary Nurse, and a strong, established nursing team. The team culture is collaborative, supportive, and focused on delivering consistent, high-quality patient and client care.
Practice Details
The practice is spacious and well equipped, featuring multiple consultation rooms, a surgical theatre, a digital X-ray suite, a large preparation area, ultrasound facilities, laparoscopic equipment, and in-house laboratory diagnostics. As part of a wider group, the practice benefits from access to 24-hour hospitals and advanced referral facilities when required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified MRCVS with a strong interest in small animal medicine and confidence managing a varied first-opinion caseload. You will be comfortable performing minimal routine surgery and enjoy working within a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication skills, a client-focused approach, and a commitment to delivering high clinical standards are essential.
