Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned practice seeking an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon to lead their hugely popular clinic in the heart of East London. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident clinician to truly make a practice their own while working within a well-supported group structure that encourages development, leadership, and innovation.
Working Hours / Rota
The role averages 41 hours per week and is structured across a four-day working week. The rota includes a 1:4 branch Saturday rotation and a 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota’d to work up to two bank holidays per year at the local hospital and take part in a last-resort on-call rotation. The role also includes approximately six short add-on twilight shifts per year, offering valuable emergency and critical care exposure.
Role Description
This is a senior GP role suited to a vet who thrives in a fast-paced, high-caseload environment and enjoys leading a team. You will be hands-on with consultations and surgeries while providing senior clinical support and guidance to colleagues. Hackney operates as a busy and diverse “mini hub” practice, working closely with the consult and minor ops clinic to support surgical case flow. You will play a key role in shaping clinical standards, mentoring colleagues, and driving positive change as the practice continues to evolve and expand.
Team Size
You will work alongside two other Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, students, and trainee nurses. As Senior Vet, you will work closely with the Senior RVN to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice, contributing to areas such as diary management, clinical governance, and team engagement. The team is known for its strong culture, collaborative spirit, and resilience during busy periods.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and confident GP Veterinary Surgeon ready to step into a senior leadership role. You will be comfortable managing a busy caseload, supporting and mentoring colleagues, and contributing to practice management and governance. Strong communication skills, leadership capability, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach are essential, along with a genuine enthusiasm for developing both people and clinical standards.
Practice Details
The practice is well equipped with two consulting rooms, a large preparation and theatre area, separate cat and dog wards, and a busy in-house laboratory. Recent investment includes new ultrasound facilities, with further equipment upgrades planned. The benefits from close support from the 24-hour Veterinary Hospital, allowing rapid referral of emergency and complex cases to ensure continuity of care for clients.
