Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned practice/hospital and operates two first-opinion small animal GP practices in South London. This unique role offers the opportunity for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to work across two contrasting practice environments while maintaining consistency within a structured and predictable rota. The position is ideal for a GP vet who enjoys variety, autonomy, and strong regional and hospital-level support.
Working Hours / Rota
This role offers flexibility, with the option to work either three or four days per week across the two practice sites, never working at both locations on the same day. The rota includes one in four branch Saturdays and one in ten Sundays worked at a nearby 24-hour hospital, along with one to two Bank Holidays per year. There are no on-call requirements associated with this role.
Role Description
As a sole-charge Veterinary Surgeon, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality first-opinion care across consultations, diagnostics, and surgery within your level of competence. Duties include managing clinical cases in line with best practice and regulatory standards, maintaining accurate medical records, prescribing and dispensing medications appropriately, and referring cases when required. You will work closely with Registered Veterinary Nurses to ensure smooth daily operations, oversee consulting and surgical diaries, and support branch meetings and SOP implementation. The role provides autonomy alongside strong clinical and managerial backup.
Team Size
You will work alongside experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses and support staff at each site, many of whom have long-standing experience within their respective practices. You will also benefit from the ongoing support of a dedicated regional manager and a regional head vet, providing guidance on both clinical and operational matters.
Practice Details
Both practices are well established and supported by a nearby 24-hour veterinary hospital providing out-of-hours care and referral services for complex cases. The hospital offers advanced diagnostic and surgical support, ensuring your patients receive continuity of care when referrals are required. The locations benefit from excellent transport links, including tram and rail connections, making commuting across South London straightforward.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a confident GP Veterinary Surgeon comfortable working sole charge and managing a routine first-opinion caseload. You will be competent in consultations and routine surgery, enjoy working autonomously, and value strong regional support structures. Excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to high clinical standards are essential.
