Job Description

Introduction
Our Client’s practice is a brand-new, purpose-built, soon to open clinic is seeking a passionate Clinical Director to help shape its future from day one. This is a rare opportunity to lead, inspire and build a high-performing team within a beautifully designed environment, redefining what exceptional veterinary care looks and feels like. As Clinical Director, you will take responsibility for clinical, financial and people performance, while being supported by an established leadership structure and given autonomy to lead locally.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time leadership position. The Clinical Director is expected to spend approximately 80% of their time working clinically, leading from the front while balancing strategic and managerial responsibilities. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the clinic, team and clients.

Role Description
This role combines high-level clinical delivery with strategic leadership and operational oversight. You will lead clinical excellence, ensuring the highest standards of patient care through strong governance, clinical audits, evidence-based medicine and continuous professional development. You will identify and implement improvement plans where required, encourage all team members to work to the top of their qualification, and foster exceptional teamwork.

From a business perspective, you will oversee membership growth, client acquisition and local strategy, working closely with relevant managers to achieve performance targets. You will take responsibility for understanding KPIs, influencing the P&L, budget planning and ensuring all services are appropriately charged. Oversight of HR, recruitment, health and safety, marketing, client care and complaint management will form part of your remit.

As the figurehead of the clinic, you will line manage and develop the veterinary team, Nursing Director and Practice Director, conducting regular 1:1s, PDRs and team meetings. You will drive a culture of respect, inclusion and wellbeing, identifying issues early and promoting an open and honest environment. You will also act as an ambassador within the wider veterinary industry and local community.

Team Size
You will directly lead and line manage the veterinary team, Nursing Director and Practice Director, building and developing a cohesive, high-performing team within this brand-new clinic.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with proven leadership ability and a passion for clinical excellence. You will be commercially aware, comfortable with KPIs and financial performance, and confident in managing budgets and influencing profitability. Strong communication skills, empathy and the ability to inspire and develop others are essential. You will champion evidence-based medicine, prioritise team wellbeing, and embrace the opportunity to build and shape a clinic culture from the ground up while promoting the ethos and vision of the organisation.
