Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s practice is a well-established small animal veterinary clinic located in Berwick-upon-Tweed, part of a wider network across the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. Set in a stunning coastal location, the practice offers a supportive and friendly environment with a strong focus on teamwork, clinical freedom, and professional development.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time, fixed-term maternity cover role working 40 hours over 4.5 days, with a one-hour lunch break. The role includes participation in a rota for Saturday mornings and out-of-hours shifts, with time off in lieu provided following on-call duties.
Role Description
This is an excellent opportunity for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a fun and collaborative team, working across both consultations and surgical cases.
You will manage a varied caseload including dogs, cats, rabbits, and some exotics, with the opportunity to follow cases through and work with clinical autonomy. The role includes delivering high-quality first opinion care, working closely with colleagues for case discussion and support, and contributing to ongoing clinical excellence within the practice.
The position offers exposure to a wide range of cases, including work with local rescue and wildlife centres, providing a rewarding and diverse clinical experience.
Team Size
You will be working alongside an experienced and supportive team of Veterinary Surgeons, including certificate holders in internal medicine, as well as a skilled nursing team with additional qualifications in anaesthesia, exotics, and emergency and critical care.
Practice Details
The practice is well-equipped with modern facilities including endoscopy, dental X-ray, ultrasound, and in-house blood analysis. It provides a high standard of first opinion care with access to advanced diagnostics and a collaborative team environment. The practice is also recognised as a silver rabbit-friendly practice and maintains strong links with local rescue and wildlife organisations.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a Veterinary Surgeon with experience in small animal practice, confident in both medical and surgical cases. You will have strong communication skills and a collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently when required.
A passion for delivering high standards of patient care, along with an interest in continued professional development, is essential. Experience with exotics is beneficial but not essential.
