Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is offering an exciting 12-month maternity cover opportunity for an experienced hospital RVN with a strong passion for theatre work to step into a Senior Theatre Veterinary Nurse position.
This role would suit either an experienced Senior RVN or a confident theatre-focused RVN ready to take the next step into a leadership position.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, across either 4 or 5 days.
The rota includes a 1 in 6 weekend rotation with time off in lieu, 2 bank holidays per year, and participation in a last-resort on-call rotation every 1 in 10 weeks.
Role Description
As Senior Theatre RVN, you will take responsibility for the smooth and efficient running of the hospital’s four theatres, ensuring the highest clinical standards are maintained at all times.
Your responsibilities will include conducting GA sheet and pre-GA checklist audits, organising theatre schedules, troubleshooting anaesthetic equipment, maintaining surgical kits, managing stock and ordering medical air. You will provide GA, ventilator, ethylene oxide and endoscope training, oversee scope maintenance, deliver in-house CPD and ensure theatre SOPs remain current and effective.
You will also attend and contribute to leadership meetings and provide support to the Charge Nurse when required.
This role offers significant exposure to a diverse and complex surgical caseload, including advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive procedures, alongside first opinion and internal referral cases.
Team and Hospital Environment
You will join a large, experienced hospital team of approximately 25 Veterinary Surgeons, 27 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 14 Student Veterinary Nurses, 7 Veterinary Care Assistants and a substantial front-of-house team.
The hospital benefits from a strong onsite management structure including deputy head nurses, a head nurse, head vet and hospital manager, ensuring excellent support as you settle into the role.
Location
The practice is located on the outskirts of urban Essex with easy access to green spaces and countryside. It offers excellent transport links into London, with Central Line stations just a short walk away. Please note there is no on-site parking available and public transport is recommended.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with strong theatre experience and a thorough understanding of anaesthesia and surgical protocols.
You will be organised, confident and motivated to lead theatre operations while supporting and training colleagues. This is an excellent opportunity for a theatre-focused RVN seeking to gain leadership experience in a busy hospital environment.
