Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned 24-hour veterinary hospital in Leeds looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its experienced day team. This is an excellent opportunity for an RVN looking to develop within a busy hospital environment offering exposure to first-opinion, emergency and referral-level cases.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working 40 hours across four days per week, with a combination of early and late shifts.
Weekend duties are shared on a 1:4 rota, consisting of two 10-hour shifts across the weekend.
Role Description
The successful RVN will rotate through different areas of the hospital, including wards and theatre, gaining experience across inpatient, surgical and anaesthesia nursing. The varied caseload provides opportunities to develop advanced skills including feeding tube management, wound and drain care, complex medical nursing, advanced anaesthesia monitoring and Schedule 3 procedures.
The hospital is particularly interested in experienced RVNs who can bring strong clinical skills to the team. However, newly qualified nurses with relevant hospital-based training, particularly in anaesthesia and inpatient care, will also be considered.
There is a strong focus on career development, with mentorship, regular CPD and support towards further qualifications available as nurses progress.
Team Size
The hospital has a team of more than 60 colleagues, including experienced Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses. Several team members hold postgraduate certificates across ECC, Small Animal Surgery, Medicine, Dentistry and Anaesthesia, creating a strong learning environment for developing nurses.
Practice Details
The practice is a 24-hour RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Centre providing out-of-hours and referral-level support to 19 referring practices alongside its own first-opinion service.
The hospital operates with a nurse-led approach, with RVNs playing a central role in inpatient, anaesthesia and surgical care. It is also an established training hub for veterinary nurses, with regular in-house CPD and a strong emphasis on teaching and continuous clinical development.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, enthusiastic and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse with a genuine interest in hospital nursing and developing advanced clinical skills.
Previous experience within a hospital environment would be beneficial, particularly experience with anaesthesia and inpatient care. Applications are also welcomed from newly qualified RVNs who have developed relevant practical experience during their training and are keen to progress within a busy clinical environment.
