Job Description
Our client is offering an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join their Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team at their 24-hour hospital in Thurmaston, which opened its doors in April 2024. With an established and loyal client base transferred from a longstanding Leicester practice, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a thriving and modern hospital setting.
Working Hours / Rota
This role offers a unique rota with excellent work-life balance. You will work 5 days in a row, followed by 9 consecutive days off. The ECC rota runs from Wednesday to Sunday, allowing you to immerse yourself in clinical cases while also enjoying extended downtime to recharge.
Role Description
As part of the ECC team, you will provide exceptional care to patients during consultations, diagnostics, and procedures, often working sole charge. You’ll manage a wide range of emergency and critical care cases, ensuring clients receive clear and compassionate updates while delivering gold-standard results. The role is designed to keep you engaged and on your toes while providing ample opportunities to develop your clinical skills. You’ll also contribute to a positive team culture, supporting colleagues and sharing best practice within the wider clinical community.
Team Size
You will be joining a talented and passionate team within the 24-hour hospital, including Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs, and support staff. Collaboration is at the heart of the practice, ensuring cases are managed to the highest standard with the support of a dedicated ECC team.
Practice Details
The Thurmaston 24-hour hospital is a modern, purpose-built facility equipped with advanced technology to support ECC cases. Available equipment includes orthopaedic kit, a high-quality ultrasound machine, digital and dental X-ray facilities, endoscopy, and a tonometer. In addition, you’ll have access to clinical communities across Medicine, Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, and Exotics, offering excellent opportunities for learning and mentorship.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for emergency and critical care. You should be confident working sole charge, able to deliver high standards of patient care, and provide clear communication with clients. Strong teamwork skills, clinical leadership ability, and a proactive approach to supporting colleagues are essential. Previous experience in ECC is desirable but not essential – enthusiasm, resilience, and a commitment to continuous development are key.
The practice handles high surgical and soft tissue caseloads and supports the out-of-hours care for surrounding clinics, making it a central hub for ECC cases in the region.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for emergency and critical care. You should be confident working sole charge, have a proactive and calm approach under pressure, and be capable of handling complex cases with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to foster a supportive team environment during overnight shifts, are key.
