Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned hospital seeking a competent Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon to join their Hospital in Wimbledon on a fixed 12-month night contract. This role is available due to a valued team member commencing parental leave and offers the opportunity to work within a well-established, well-supported 24-hour hospital environment.

Working Hours / Rota
The role follows an attractive night rota of four consecutive nights on followed by seventeen nights off, averaging 17.3 working hours per week. Shifts begin at 7:30pm and are structured as waking night duties. There is flexibility for the successful vet to pick up additional shifts throughout the year if desired, offering scope to increase earnings or clinical exposure.

Role Description
This position is ideal for a confident ECC vet who is comfortable working sole charge nights within a hospital setting. You will manage a broad and stimulating caseload that includes emergency presentations, inpatient care, and critical cases admitted overnight. Responsibilities include overseeing ward patients, performing emergency procedures and surgeries when required, and delivering consistently high standards of care throughout the night. You will work closely with an experienced on-site RVN during each shift and benefit from access to the hospital’s daytime clinical management team for additional support when needed. The role provides excellent autonomy combined with strong backup systems, making it both professionally rewarding and well supported.

Team Size
You will work alongside an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse during night shifts and be supported by a wider multidisciplinary hospital team, including day clinicians and clinical management staff.

Practice Details
The practice is a busy, well-equipped 24-hour hospital serving both its own first-opinion clients and supporting surrounding practices through internal referrals. The hospital manages a varied mix of routine, emergency, and critical cases and benefits from in-house specialist support including orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, cardiology, and physiotherapy. This structure allows seamless referral of cases requiring specialist input, ensuring continuity of care and strong clinical outcomes. The hospital is located in Wimbledon Village, just a short walk from Wimbledon Junction station, offering excellent transport links across London.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced ECC Veterinary Surgeon who is confident working sole charge nights and managing emergency and inpatient cases independently. Previous experience in an ECC or hospital environment is highly desirable. You will be calm under pressure, clinically capable, and passionate about delivering excellent overnight patient care. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with nurses and the wider hospital team are essential for success in this role.
