Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is seeking a Nocturnal Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their 24-hour hospital in Wimbledon on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an RVN, or student soon to qualify, with a background in emergency and critical care who is confident managing night cases and inpatient wards alongside an experienced Veterinary Surgeon.
Working Hours / Rota
This role follows a unique rotation of 3 nights on, 7 nights off, followed by 4 nights on, 7 nights off, averaging 30.33 hours per week.
Night shifts run from 7pm to 8am.
Role Description
As Night RVN, you will triage cases on arrival, assess urgency and respond appropriately to emergency situations. You will assist Veterinary Surgeons in theatre, during inpatient examinations and procedures, and in consultations when required.
You will maintain comprehensive and accurate hospitalisation records, ensure high standards of comfort and welfare for all inpatients, and keep all clinical equipment cleaned, sterilised and stored correctly.
The role also includes utilising Schedule 3 skills as directed, answering client telephone calls appropriately, admitting clients efficiently with sensitivity to urgent situations, and providing updates to owners regarding their hospitalised pets as directed.
You will work alongside an experienced on-site Veterinary Surgeon during night shifts, with additional support available from the clinical management team if required.
Team and Hospital Environment
The hospital provides a varied caseload including routine procedures, emergency and critical care. In addition to its own first opinion cases, it supports surrounding practices with internal referrals requiring hospital expertise.
Specialist services include orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, cardiology and physiotherapy. The hospital is RCVS Accredited and holds an ISFM Silver Award for Cat Friendly Clinics.
Location
The hospital is situated in Wimbledon Village, just a 10-minute walk from Wimbledon station with direct access to central London via the District Line.
Local parking is available close to the hospital, with minimal cost due to the night working hours. Wimbledon offers a picturesque village setting combined with excellent transport connections across London.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse, or a student soon to qualify, with experience in emergency and critical care.
You will be confident managing night inpatients, triaging emergency cases and working independently alongside a Veterinary Surgeon during out-of-hours shifts.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail and a calm, organised approach are essential for success in this role.
