Job Description
Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned Hospital seeking a Lead Veterinary Surgeon with a surgical bias and a preference for orthopaedics to join their established and growing team. This is a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role in a well-respected hospital setting that values collaboration, clinical excellence, and work-life balance.
Rota Details
This is a full-time, permanent role with a rota designed to support both clinical focus and a healthy work-life balance. Weekend and OOH responsibilities may be included due to the hospital’s 24-hour service, but these are shared across a large and dedicated clinical team.
Information About the Practice
The hospital is an RCVS-accredited Small Animal General Practice and a Registered Veterinary Nurse Training Practice. It participates in the VetGDP programme and benefits from a diverse clinical caseload, including referral-level work. The team includes advanced practitioners, dedicated night vets, and a full support staff committed to high clinical standards and professional growth.
Description of the Role
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care across consultations, diagnostics, and surgery, with scope to focus on orthopaedics and complex surgical cases. In addition to clinical duties, you will help guide and mentor the vet team, contribute to decision-making around clinical governance and best practice, and play a key role in driving forward surgical development and standards across the hospital.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with a minimum of 3 years’ UK experience and a strong surgical interest, ideally with experience in orthopaedics. You’ll be confident in leading clinical cases and supporting your team, proactive in driving high standards, and enthusiastic about mentoring colleagues and shaping the hospital’s future clinical direction.
Practice Equipment List
The hospital is equipped with a dedicated orthopaedic theatre, digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, multiparameter monitoring, in-house lab facilities, isolation unit, and separate dog and cat wards. These facilities support advanced surgical procedures and comprehensive inpatient care.
