Job Description

Introduction
Our Client is a corporately owned practice seeking a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join their established branch near Crawley. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced vet to step into a leadership position, shaping the future of a community practice and mentoring a talented team while benefiting from the support of a larger hospital network nearby.

Working Hours / Rota
The role is full time, with a rota designed to provide a balance between professional responsibilities and personal life. Specific details on hours and weekend cover can be discussed to suit both the candidate and the team.

Role Description
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will take responsibility for the clinical leadership of the branch, ensuring patient care and client service remain at the highest standards. You will oversee consultations and procedures, guide the clinical workflow, prepare treatment plans and estimates, and manage compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements. A key part of the role will be mentoring and coaching junior colleagues, driving clinical excellence, and working with the Practice Manager to maintain strong commercial performance. This role provides the autonomy to lead a practice while being supported by a nearby 24-hour hospital for more complex cases and emergencies.

Team Size
You will lead a friendly and committed team made up of a two-year qualified vet, a Head Nurse, two RVNs, two SVNs and a Client Care Assistant. This close-knit team is passionate about patient care and works collaboratively to support one another and deliver excellent client service.

Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will be an RCVS-registered veterinary surgeon with at least five years’ UK experience. You will be confident in leading a small team, managing consultations and procedures, and making clinical decisions. Strong leadership skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to coach and influence colleagues are essential. A collaborative, proactive approach and a genuine commitment to patient care and client service will ensure you thrive in this role.
