Job Description

Introduction
Our Client’s practice is located in Chester, a historic city in the Northwest of England, offering a balance of vibrant city life and surrounding countryside. The practice is currently undergoing an exciting refurbishment and rebranding phase under new ownership, creating a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to play a key role in shaping its future direction.

Working Hours / Rota
This role offers a great work-life balance with a 30-hour working week across 3 days. The rota includes 1 in 5 Saturdays (9:00am – 12:30pm), with no Sundays and no out-of-hours (OOH) commitments.

Role Description
This is a leadership-focused clinical role where you will support the Head Vet by providing senior clinical guidance and oversight. Responsibilities include supporting complex case management, promoting best practices in anaesthesia, surgery, and patient safety, and assisting with clinical protocols, audits, and continuous improvement. You will act as a key point of contact for clinical concerns in the absence of the Head Vet, while also mentoring junior vets and contributing to the development of the clinical team. The role allows you to focus on clinical excellence while having input into the strategic direction and performance of the practice.

Team Size
The team consists of 7 vets, 5 RVNs, 2 SVNs, and 3 receptionists, all supported by an experienced Practice Manager. The team has a wide range of clinical interests, creating a collaborative and knowledge-rich environment.

Practice Details
The practice is situated just outside Chester city centre with excellent transport links. It is currently undergoing significant refurbishment and rebranding, aiming to elevate clinical standards and client experience. The practice benefits from a varied caseload with a high proportion of insured clients, allowing for thorough workups and high-quality care. The team fosters a positive and social culture, regularly engaging in activities outside of work to strengthen team cohesion.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with strong leadership and communication skills. Previous experience leading or supporting a clinical team is preferred. You will be confident managing complex cases, passionate about mentoring others, and committed to maintaining high clinical standards. A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for driving practice development are essential.
